The first item for my homemade wardrobe is the Simplicity 2188 vest. I wanted to start with something easy and ease into everything else. This pattern is very easy to follow and very complimentary to many outfits. Depending on which fabric you choose it can aid in dressing up or dressing down any outfit.

For this project I used two different fabrics; a cotton blend (pattern) & Corduroy (solid) and a navy lining, all purchased at Joann's. Navy is one of my favorite dark colors, I heard someone call it black's fun sister, and I couldn't agree more! Its such a wearable color, it literally goes with everything!!!

Now to the pattern itself, like I stated before the pattern was very easy to follow and a very quick sew. It took me a couple of hours (spread out through the week) to make, but it can easily be made in one sitting. To be honest it could probably be made in an hour or less for more experienced people. Since the vest is pretty loose I made no alterations to the pattern. The only thing I did not do was top stitch. I think it would make the vest look crisper with a top stitch but to be honest I was just so excited to wear it that I completely skipped that part. I know, I know it's a wardrobe for the spring and I will not wear the rest of the items but hey it was my first piece, I was excited!!
I really enjoy this vest and would consider making it again with a different fabric, maybe denim to be more of a casual item? I highly recommend it!
